Wii Balance Board Games Roundup

For the latest news on Nintendo Wii Board Games

About WiiBBG

I would class myself as a 'casual gamer' which means that I fit quite neatly into Nintendo's key demographic for the Wii console. Don't get me wrong, I'm amazed by the detail, graphics and gameplay of the latest high def PS3 and Xbox titles but I just never found myself compelled to go out and buy one of those consoles. Let's be honest, the last time I really got hooked on an FPS was Wolfenstein 3D (wearing headphones and feeling the hairs on the back of my neck stand with each shotgun blast). Strangely enough it never turned me into a raving murderous sociopath - go figure.

I've obviously played loads of games since then but always found myself more interested in flight simulators and golf games. That's until the Nintendo Wii console came along. It was something about being able to physically control the gameplay and interact in a whole new way that caught my interest. I managed to get hold of a console towards the end of 2007 (just before the mad Christmas dash) and I've been a big fan ever since.

When rumours of Wii Fit first came to light I didn't really pay much attention. I'm a bit of a gym fanatic so the idea of playing a game to keep fit never really appealled to me. It was only when I read a bit more and found out about the new Nintendo controller that was being bundled with Wii Fit that I really started to pay attention. I am of course referring to the new Wii Balance Board or Wii Board.

I really believe that the Wii Balance Board is going to be a big hit and will introduce a whole new level of gameplay. Just think of the possibilities. Obviously games like snowboarding, wakeboarding and surfing could benefit and of course skateboarding (are you getting this Tony Hawk). Even FPSs could incorporate the Wii board. Right now however (April 2008), games with Wii board support are a bit thin on the ground which is understandable as I would imagine it takes considerable effort to program Wii board support into current titles. Fortunately if sales of Wii Fit in Japan are anything to go by (1.8 million copies in four months from launch), it should sell well in US and Europe and hopefully, if there are enough Wii boards out there, more and more games manufacturers will start to support it.

So that's what this site is about - keeping up with progress on Wii Balance Board Games. What's released. What's rumoured to be released and even what we'd like to see released. I expect big things for the Wii board and lots of exciting new games for 2008. Who knows, one day, even hardcore gamers may give the Wii console and its Wii Balance Board a little respect.
