E3 2008 No Shows

clock July 18, 2008 13:23 by author WiiBBG

With all of the excitement of E3 2008 behind us and some good news for Wii Balance Board fans I thought I would take a look back at the games we were expecting to see but didn't as well as a few we would have liked to have seen but didn't really expect.

EA Fitness
EA's E3 press conference proved to be a bit of a disappointment overall and while we did see some good exposure of Skate It over the three days, the other big news we were hoping for was confirmation of rumours surrounding a new fitness game which, for the time being, is titled EA Fitness.

Now according to a post on IGN, EA has publicly revealed that it is working on a new fitness title but they don't seem to be ready to reveal any more than that. Let's hope that this does prove to be more than just rumours because, based on the initial feedback we've been getting via our Wii Fit Survey, there's definitely a demand for more fitness games for the balance board.

Spider-Man
Spidey did make an appearance at E3 in the form of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows but we only got to see PS3/XBox/PC gameplay and there was no mention of a Wii version or confirmation of any of the previous rumours about balance board support.

Punch-Out!!
Earlier this month, rumours started doing the rounds that two of Nintendo's big reveals for E3 would be Animal Crossing and Punch-Out!! According to NGamer, Punch-Out!! was going to make use of the Wii Balance Board for dodging and weaving in addition to using the Wiimote and Nunchuck for punching. As it turns out, Animal Crossing made the grade, and Punch-Out!! was nowhere to be found.

Wii Yoga
I didn't really expect to see JoWood's Wii Yoga at E3 but it would have been nice to get a bit more info as, according to our survey, there is some interest in yoga as a dedicated title for the Wii Balance Board.

WiiWare Balance Board Titles
Strangely, there didn't seem to be too much emphasis on WiiWare titles this year. There have been various rumours for some time about possible WiiWare balance board games, the most positive coming from Hudson in relation to Tetris for WiiWare but it was another no show.

PheroseSoft We Move
Saving the best for last! Some of you may recall the earlier sexually-charged teaser trailers for this 'game' which seemed to hint at a showing at E3. Earlier this month another video appeared featuring a "Splash Girl" object and what looked to me like a stream of bright yellow pee. No I'm not making this up, see for yourself. At the time I chose not to mention it on WiiBBG as I was starting to suspect that this was a hoax.

Needless to say, We Move was a no show at this year's E3 but according to info on YouTube ... "Wiiware forth quarter 2008, balance board mmorpg featuring 100% user created content, MotionPlus. pay2play". What, already including support for MotionPlus? I'll believe this game exists when it actually appears in my console's WiiWare list.

Wii Yoga Confirmed by JoWood

clock July 4, 2008 14:02 by author WiiBBG

Wii Yoga Some of you may recall the Intellisponse frenzy last month when information about several upcoming titles was leaked to the public. One of the rumours that surfaced was for a game called Wii Yoga but at the time, there was no word on who was actually developing it.

Today, Austrian publishing house, JoWood Productions officially announced Wii Yoga as the first in a series of lifestyle games for Wii. The press release didn't provide too many details but it did confirm that the game would support the Wii Balance Board so that's another one to add to the Wii Balance Board Games List. The game is scheduled for release in Q2 2009.

Three New Balance Board Rumours Surface

clock June 16, 2008 10:19 by author WiiBBG

Wow, it's been a busy 24 hours with sightings on videogaming247 of three new Balance Board game rumours.

First up, it's news of a concept for Wii Yoga, supposedly spotted on research website, Intellisponse. The leaked blurb has this to say:

"In the game 'Wii Yoga', boost your energy, flexibility and improve your well being the fun way through an adaptable weekly schedule of interactive exercises that will leave you feeling refreshed. Follow along with an inspirational yoga guru instructor matching their on-screen poses, stretches and triangular positions with the motion sensing Wii controller and Balance Board. Track your progress, compare your fitness results with friends and family, and feel good about yourself as you enhance your physical health."

Next up, and from the same source, is news of 14 potential Spidey games with at least one of them, Spider-Man: Agile Warrior said to include Wii Balance Board support. Here's what the blurb had to say about this one:

"It might be Spider-Man's heart that keeps him going. Or maybe his strength. Step into Spider-Man's shoes and decide for yourself - one jump, leap, stomp and kick at a time. Climb atop your Wii Fit board to control Spider-Man's acrobatic abilities like nothing before. Lean one way or the other to send Spider-Man soaring in the air. Jump as high as you can to propel Spider-Man off Manhattan's tallest rooftops. Hop quickly to help Spidey climb walls and get a vertical advantage over his enemies. Stomp your feet to kick and cartwheel foes in the cirty's darkest alleys. It's been said that the fate of New York lies in Spider-Man's hands. Control his feet and see the truth for yourself: heroes don't enter the battle, they jump into it."

Lastly it's news that Tony Hawk may finally be joining the balance board party with news that Tony Hawk’s Adrenaline will make use of "a new motion sensing board controller". That doesn't necessarily mean that the controller is the Wii Balance Board since according to the original post on joystiq, there was no mention of a Wii version, just Xbox, PS3 and PC versions so the plot thickens. Could this be the start of a competing peripheral? We can only hope that a Wii version is also in the works and that it will be Wii Board compatible.

Of course all of this is highly speculative and based on information that I assume wasn't supposed to be publicly available so I wouldn't get too excited just yet. Also bear in mind that these are still 'concepts' which means they may never actually see the light of day so I won't be adding any of these to the Wii Balance Board Games List just yet.
