It looks like EA Sports Freestyle may have lost the race to be the first third-party developer to release a fitness game for the Wii Board. This comes as Majesco Entertainment announce a partnership with celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels to produce Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009, expected to be released this holiday season.
"Majesco who?" you might say. Majesco Entertainment's titles haven't exactly set the Wii world alight up until now with games like Cooking Mama: Cook Off, but that doesn't matter when you've got somebody like Jillian Michaels onboard. You'll recognise her as the kick-ass trainer on NBC's weight-loss series "The Biggest Loser".
According to the Majesco press release: "Players become new recruits in Jillian's boot camp where they enroll in a unique training program composed of challenging fitness tests and an ever-changing series of workouts". There will be four workout types, Weight Loss, Strength Training, Intervals and Hill Climb and three intensity levels. Wii Balance Board support has been confirmed but no specifics on exactly which activities will use the board.
Something that would have been nice in Wii Fit and is including in Fitness Ultimatum is a two player mode that "lets two players race against each other through entertaining individual challenges or through the entire Physical Training course to earn the winning time".
For those who think Wii Fit's more game than fitness and have been clamoring for something more hardcore, this may just be it.
